Chappel URC Harvest Festival Service

We had a very successful Harvest Festival here.  26 people attended including 4 parish councillors plus 3 wives (I had sent an invitation to the Parish Council members as a means of keeping the Chappel’s profile high in village life.)

34 tins and 9 packet soups were given for the central Colchester churches ‘Soup-run’ for the homeless. Lots of non-perishable foodstuffs were taken afterwards to the Foodbank, and £263 collection at the service for Christian Aid. We had two sheaves,  and lots of fruit and vegetables. ‘Old man’s beard’ from the hedgerow,  decorated the balustrade on the rostrum.

A number of the visitors remarked on the really good hymn-singing.

At times, this small congregation (membership 5) punches well above its weight!
