Two wonderful Exhibitions

Are you looking for new ways to share the Good News with your church and local community? I have two Exhibitions: Nativity Cribs from Around the World and an Exhibition of Knitted Bible Stories that are available for churches to borrow and display. Everyone who visits comments that these familiar stories give a fresh insight into the story of Jesus’ birth and the stories found in the Old and New Testament.

1. Nativity Cribs from around the world

A collection of 130 cribs depicting the birth of Jesus from many different cultures around the world.

The Peruvian scene features llamas, instead of the usual cattle, in the stable;

The cribs from the North American Indians shows Mary and Joseph in a teepee wearing traditional feathered headdresses;

Scenes from the Holy Land are made from wood from local olive trees whilst those from African cultures use locally sourced raffia and material oddments.

The 130 different scenes have been collected over several years and all tell the story of the birth of our Saviour over 2000 years ago.

This year, the Nativity Exhibition is being displayed at St. Andrew’s Parish Church, Girton (CB3 0PN), and can be viewed by the public each afternoon from Dec 3rd to 5th and on the morning of Dec 6th and later at All Saints’ Parish Church (PE29 1YF) each afternoon from December 9th to December 12th. Morning viewing at each location is reserved for visits by school groups.

2. Knitted Bible Stories

Delightful hand knitted characters depict 30 Biblical stories starting with the Creation and 11 further scenes from the Old Testament. The 18 New Testament stories begin with the Nativity and progress through Jesus’ baptism and the parables and miracles of Jesus. The final scenes are of the entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, Jesus carrying the cross for his crucifixion, the joy of Easter Day and the amazement of the disciples as they walk with Jesus on the road to Emmaus.

This is a wonderful portrayal of Biblical stories knitted with love and perseverance by just one very talented lady who wishes to share her deep faith with others. The Exhibition is an ideal visual aid for Alpha groups, schoolchildren and as a reminder to adults of well-loved Biblical stories.

Please contact Marjorie Carrier (carrier_mj@yahoo.co.uk) if your church is interested in hosting either of these Exhibitions in 2025 so that further details can be sent. There is no charge to host these events, although visitors often wish to make donations and these are usually shared between the host church, a Mission project of the host church’s choosing and St Ives Free Church (where I worship).
