Emmanuel Church, Walton on the Naze has been formally granted its Eco Church Bronze award through A Rocha.
Bronze was largely about seeing where we are, what we can easily change, and getting people to think of our, and their, eco footprints. Silver will be more challenging.
We are redesigning the narrow, but church length, garden to attract more beasties, particularly butterflies and bees but also with a bug hotel, water and a log pile. For the garden we had a display of options of what we might do to ensure others feel involved with it (and can offer plants etc). We included the Rainbows and Brownies who meet in our hall in the selection. There weren’t many votes but the clear winner was wild flowers. The seeds are planted and it will be interesting to see what comes up.
We have twinned all our toilets (6) and have certificates which we have fixed to the toilet doors with Velcro to enable removing for display but also rotating around the various toilets.
