Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) webinars – January, February and March 2025

Laura Gaskell, who is the National Outreach Advisor for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), will be holding the following workshops in early 2025. Aimed at the Faith Based sector these sessions are designed to help with understanding regulated activity and the different levels of checks when there is a legal duty to refer to DBS.

This workshop will cover:

  • The benefits of DBS and your organisation working together.
  • The different levels of DBS checks available.
  • Eligibility, and when an employee or volunteer is eligible for a particular level of check.
  • What ‘regulated activity’ is.
  • What the DBS Update Service is, and its benefits.
  • Other safer recruitment practices that can be in place and how DBS checks form a part of these.

 This workshop will cover:

  • Understand the benefits of DBS and your organisation working together.  
  • Understand the three different referral routes.
  • Understand when a DBS Barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met.   
  • Understand what Regulated Activity is.  
  • Understand how to make a good quality referral.   
  • Have a clear understanding of the consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals and the consequences of being included in one or both Barred Lists.

  • Using the Update Service when recruitment decisions are made off site.
