Alongside piles of good-quality school uniform, primary and senior, spread across two halls, families could also browse free books and donated toys. Despite the heatwave winter coats were also a popular item as families get ready for the new school year in September.

The community responded generously during the two-week donation period, with collection bins placed around the church grounds from 20 to 31 July.

The event was hosted by Christ Church URC in partnership with Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service and there were stalls from local organisations providing advice on nutrition, dental care and local services. 

Christ Church is part of the CHELSWEX (Chelmsford and south west Essex) mission partnership.
