Dear Friends,
This winter I’m inviting you and your church to join me in something simple but important: Love My Neighbour.
Together with The Salvation Army Older People’s Ministries Team, we’re calling churches and individuals to step out and bring light into the lives of older neighbours who may be facing a very lonely winter.
Shorter, darker days, cold homes, poor health, and fewer opportunities to get out can leave some older people not speaking to or seeing anyone for several days at a time. That kind of isolation doesn’t just feel bad — it can harm peoples’ health and even shorten their lives.
Love My Neighbour is one response, a way of reaching older people in your community who you are not already connecting with.
Over the coming months we’ll share ideas and encouragement to help you and your church get involved. But it isn’t rocket-science, and it isn’t about launching a new programme or recruiting a team of superheroes. It’s simply about inviting your church family to notice the older people living on their street, and to consider how they might be a blessing to them this winter through prayer, invitations, visiting, and by offering practical help.
My prayer is that, together, we will shut the door on winter loneliness — and bring light, life, connection, and the love of Jesus to older people everywhere this winter.
With every blessing,
Alexandra Huggins
