Bicycle Repair Station

Whittlesford URC is on a fairly busy cycle route where lycra-clad speedsters move at warp speed towards the delights of Duxford and where weekend cyclists gasp their way sweatily to the next place they can stop for a rest.

Where better to install a free-access bike repair station for anyone to use?  It has all the tools you need to change a tyre, fettle your brakes or adjust the flux capacitor grunions on your gears.

When we installed it, we had a cafe. We aim to reopen the cafe when our refurbishments are done – so you can repair your bike and have cake and coffee too.

Villagers who have no tools can come down anytime to use it and we plan to run bike repair training sessions for grown ups with cheese and wine and incorporate basic bike repair into the primary school cycle proficiency training programme (without the cheese and wine.)

It cost about £2000 all-in which was completely covered by a parish council backed application to the South Cambridgeshire community chest small-grants fund.
