Chappel URC – The Harvest Festival service was conducted by William Glasse. Over twenty people attended. Linda Hart sang the aria “With verdure clad” from the oratorio ‘Creation’ by Joseph Haydn. The Offertory for Christian Aid amounted to £240.
The Church had been beautifully decorated and after the service seasonal refreshments including bread, cheese, pickles, apple juice, apple cake and cider were available as well as tea and coffee.
From the display, almost 40 kgs of foodstuffs were taken to the Foodbank at Tollgate, and many tins and packet soups destined for the Colchester City Centre Soup Run.
Three men – wise or otherwise (!) – were responsible for the flower arrangements and produce displays in the Chapel. Two sheaves added to the overall harvest display in this rural chapel.
