Congratulations to Ipswich Road URC, Norwich who have achieved a Silver eco church award! In addition to what they had done to achieve bronze (solar panels, double glazing) they have done the following:
We now have drawers at the church where people can deposit dental accessories, make up, bras, crayons/pens etc and spectacles. There is also another for the plastic bags/biscuit wrappers used in the building which we can take to supermarkets. We also have a clothing bank in the grounds -the church receives some money for every kilo deposited and it is well used by local residents. The local residents’ association advertises that we have these facilities , in their local newsletter.
Other things we have done-when re roofing the church roof, we added extra insulation. We also ensure at least one article in the monthly newsletter, have re registered as a fair trade church and increased promotion of it-and we have a group of people meeting bi monthly to plan events and the next steps. We have held a couple of cafe church services using care for the environment as a theme. More lights have been converted to LEDs. We are working to make the garden even more wildlife friendly and have one section purely for wildflowers etc
